My Sister Charlotte

Teenaged Ava recalls the memory of a birthday of her sister, Charlotte, where both girls giggle excitedly as Charlotte’s birthday cake is laid down before them. In the present day, their family home is dominated by Charlotte’s eating disorder as the girls’ parents struggle to keep Charlotte adhering to her treatment rules, whilst Ava witnesses her sister attempting to hide binges and compulsively exercise in secret. As Charlotte’s health continues to spiral, Ava threatens to reveal her sister’s rituals to their parents, culminating in a conflict between them. After Ava watches her parents break down over another grueling mealtime, she reaches out to Charlotte with a heart-shaped chocolate and encourages her sister to eat with her. Despite her hesitation, Charlotte shares the sweet with Ava, in parallel with their childhoods –- in a memory from years past, a younger Ava and Charlotte laugh as they decorate cupcakes together.
